As most of you know and probably are here for is the great site of Petra. This Rose Red city, half as old as time, compromises a complete urban infrastructure which includes temples, public buildings, markets, private houses, high places, paved streets, baths and theatres carved from living rocks by the Nabateans over 2000 years ago. No one has yet been there without falling in love with Petra and a visit to Jordan without seeing it is not considered a visit. So get ready because this place is a must! Now if you still want to see more of our rich archaeology then we must go north of Amman and visit the Greco-Roman city of Jerash– Gerasa - in the ancient times. It is definitely considered to be the best-preserved and most complete city of the Decapolis, a confederation of ten Roman cities dating back to the 1st Century BC. Having already been to Jerash, passing by Ajloun castle becomes part of the journey; an outstanding example of the 12th Century Arab/ Islamic military architecture and Saladin’s base in 1187.
Umm Qais and Pellaare the continuation of the journey. On one hand Umm Qais has a magnificent view over the northern Jordan Valley, the Sea of Galilee, the Yarmouk River gorge, and the Golan Hights. Pella on the other hand goes as far as 5000 years back with continuous settlements and current remains of ruins, which are still well preserved.
The Citadel of Amman, a hill with the ruins of the Temple of Hercules, and a museum with some unique artefacts dating back to the dawn of human civilisation around 7000 BC. At the foot of the Citadel you will find the 5000 seat Roman Theatre. At the end of this great visit we guarantee you would have added a lot to your knowledge and you will be more than happy to say you were there!!
